Orlando Wensley Engelaar ((:ɔr.ˈlɑn.doː ˈɛŋə.ˌlaːr)) (born 24 August 1979 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch footballer. Engelaar usually plays as a midfielder, and is well known for his height. At 1.96 m tall, he is a towering presence on the pitch. ==Club career== Previously a striker, he is now usually found in midfield or the defense where he has impressed with his aerial and passing abilities. His greatest quality is largely considered to be his through pass because, in spite of his size, he is very much an attack minded player. Engelaar started his career at Feyenoord in the youth system, where he spent fifteen years before joining NAC Breda, which is the start of his professional career. Engelaar come from Suriname and his father is a footballer, who plays in the central-defense while in Suriname. After joining NAC Breda, Engelaar made his debut for the club, where he played in the left midfield and played 90 minutes, as NAC Breda lose 1-0 against RKC Waalwijk. After making his debut, Engelaar made a difficult start to his first two season at NAC Breda and yet to score his first goal until he scored a double against Heerenveen on 14 September 2002. He would score another brace, three weeks later on 5 October 2002. The 2002-03 season proved to be a breakthrough for Engelaar, as he scored twelve goal in thirty-three appearance and also helped the club qualify for the UEFA Cup, as they finished fourth place. At the start of the 2003-04 season, Engelaar signed a three-year contract with NAC Breda, which will keep him until 2007. Engelaar played both legs in the first round of UEFA Cup against Premier League side Newcastle United, but they proved to be too strong and failed to win either legs losing 6-1 and 1-0 respectively.
